CuliDataBase 5.2.1 The Ultimate Recipe Management Tool
CuliDataBase is a user-friendly application for managing culinary recipes.
There is a PPC and a 68K version; with this you have the PPC version.
The software of version 5.x has been completely rewritten because the first CuliDataBase stems from 1995. CuliDataBase now supports Apple Guide and QuickTime 3.0™.
Version 5.2 has a much faster Find function without unnecessary repeat hits in one and the same recipe.
Version 5.2.1 fixes an error that appeared after canceling a new recipe.
The newest feature of CuliDataBase 5.x is that you have 9 sub-indexes which you can rename to suit your culinary requirements, plus a separate index for your favorite dishes. New is also that you can compose new recipes in CuliDataBase itself and that you have a Font menu available.
However, you can still prepare a recipe in your word processor and import it. Of course, you can also import all recipes and culinary terms from your previous CuliDataBase.
A simple click with the mouse lets you put ingredients on a shopping list. Recipes can be scaled up or down according to number of servings, while the singular or plural form of the ingredients' names is taken care of as well, so '1 bay leaf ' will become '2 bay leaves' or vice versa. This works in English, French and Dutch.
To illustrate your recipes, you can import pictures of dishes.
Finally, you've got a list with culinary terms that you can extend yourself, and an Internet menu that you can modify to go to your favorite sites.
An unregistered copy of CuliDataBase is fully functional, apart from the export and print functions, and some minor details.
The shareware fee is US$ 8. After payment, you receive a code to activate all functions. The code remains valid for future upgrades.
Launch the Register utility for details about paying methods.
About the example recipe
There is an example recipe in SimpleText format to show you how to type a recipe if you choose to prepare a recipe in your own word processor. If you follow the layout, your recipe will be imported without intervening dialogs.
About the stationery
The stationery comes in handy if you choose to prepare a recipe and then import it.
About the CuliDataBase Guide
This file is used by CuliDataBase and should not be double-clicked by you. It has to reside in the CuliDataBase folder, otherwise it won't work.
Troubleshooting
- On some G3s and iMacs the PPC version of CuliDataBase doesn't work well. In that case, use the 68K version which is a bit slower, though, but performs good enough.
- If you select a recipe (CDB file) for import, a conflict is possible with the Apple control panel 'Mac OS Easy Open' (or 'Macintosh Easy Open')
As a remedy you open this control panel and first clear "Convert text files", and if this doesn't help you click 'Remove Preferences'.
In some cases you have to restart your computer as well.
- If, in very rare cases, you cannot click the arrow in a CuliDataBase Guide panel, then hold the Command key down while you click.
- If CuliDataBase's main window disappears after a click in the Zoom box, just don't do it; it has no function anyway.
Enjoy CuliDataBase!
